When to Book a Confinement Nanny in Singapore

Once your pregnancy is confirmed, it can feel surprisingly early to think about the first month after birth. Yet in Singapore, experienced confinement nannies are often booked months ahead — especially for popular periods such as Chinese New Year. So, when should you book a confinement nanny?

For the best choice of dates and care arrangements, aim to start looking during your first or early second trimester and confirm your booking around 20 to 24 weeks of pregnancy. This guide walks you through the timeline, what to decide at each stage, and what to do if your due date is already close.

Why Confinement Nannies Are Booked So Early

A confinement nanny usually supports one family for 28 days, so she can accept only a limited number of bookings each year. Families also tend to request nannies with strong references, many years of newborn-care experience, breastfeeding-support knowledge, or confidence caring for twins. Those profiles fill first.

Your estimated due date is only an estimate. A professional provider therefore needs enough flexibility to manage an earlier or later birth, coordinate work-permit arrangements where needed, and have replacement support available if your assigned nanny becomes unavailable.

First Trimester: Decide What Kind of Support You Want

During weeks 8 to 13, you do not need to have every detail settled. Start by discussing what recovery at home might realistically look like.

  • Will your partner or family be available during the day and overnight?
  • Do you have a private room and suitable sleeping arrangement for a stay-in nanny?
  • Would you feel more comfortable recovering at home, or in a professionally managed residence?
  • Do you want nanny care alone, or a broader team including lactation and postnatal recovery support?
  • What is your total budget after groceries, herbs, ang baos and possible surcharges?

This is also a good time to compare the two main options: a trained confinement nanny at home, or an in-residence confinement stay with meals, housekeeping and professional support included.

Weeks 14–20: Shortlist and Interview

By the early second trimester, request availability for your estimated delivery window. Speak to two or three providers rather than comparing only headline prices.

Ask who trains and supervises the nanny, what happens if she is ill or your baby arrives early, whether a replacement is guaranteed, and which duties are included. Clarify night feeds, confinement cooking, baby laundry, household chores, twins surcharges and Chinese New Year fees in writing.

If you are considering a confinement residence, arrange a tour. Look beyond the room itself: ask whether your baby receives dedicated one-to-one care or enters a shared nursery, who handles lactation concerns, how meals are adapted, and what support is available overnight.

Weeks 20–24: Confirm Your Booking

For most families, this is the ideal time to book. You have usually passed the earliest stage of pregnancy, your care preferences are clearer, and there is still a good selection of nannies and room types.

Before paying a deposit, make sure the agreement states the estimated start date, service length, full price, taxes and surcharges, cancellation or postponement terms, early-delivery arrangements, and replacement policy. Keep all promises in the written agreement rather than relying on chat messages.

Third Trimester: Finalise the Practical Details

If your booking is already confirmed, use weeks 28 onward to prepare for a smooth handover. Share any medical or feeding considerations your care team needs to know, confirm how arrival will be coordinated after delivery, and prepare your home or packing list.

For a nanny at home, decide where she will sleep, stock basic household supplies, and agree on family boundaries before she arrives. For an in-residence stay, confirm check-in arrangements, what baby and postpartum essentials are supplied, and what to pack for your confinement stay.

What If I Am Booking at the Last Minute?

Do not panic. Availability will be narrower, but families do secure care in the third trimester or even after delivery because dates change and cancellations happen. Contact providers directly with your estimated due date, preferred start date, location and whether you need home or in-residence care.

Stay flexible about the exact nanny profile and start date, but do not compromise on identity checks, training, clear fees or replacement support. Avoid sending a deposit to an unverified individual simply because the timeline feels urgent.

When Should I Book for Chinese New Year?

If any part of your 28-day confinement may fall over Chinese New Year, begin enquiries as soon as your pregnancy is confirmed. This is the highest-demand period, availability is limited and holiday surcharges are common. Ask for the complete surcharge and staffing arrangement before you commit.

How Far Ahead Should I Book for Twins?

For twins, aim to book at least six months before your estimated delivery date. You need someone with genuine twin-care experience, and the number of suitable nannies is smaller. Confirm whether an additional caregiver is recommended and how the provider supports an earlier-than-expected delivery.

A Simple Booking Rule

Start researching after your first-trimester appointments and aim to confirm by 20 to 24 weeks. Book earlier for Chinese New Year, twins, a preferred nanny, or a specific residence and room type. If you are later than that, ask anyway — a properly managed provider may still have safe, supported options.
